A Lighter Path to Injury Rehab
MPOWER Performance Institute incorporates innovative technology into its rehabilitation program. One staple of our physical therapy and personal training programs is the AlterG® Fit anti-gravity treadmill. This treadmill is a bit different than the one you see at most gyms.
What Does The AlterG® Fit Do?
The AlterG® anti-gravity treadmill utilizes Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology to reduce the user’s body weight by as much as 80%. The lowered body weight decreases the impact of movement during exercise.
What Are the Benefits of an Anti-Gravity Treadmill?
The anti-gravity treadmill provides less impact on your feet, legs, and knees. It has shown to aid the recovery of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears, stress fractures, herniated disks, and other major injuries in case studies performed by medical professionals.
The AlterG® is also used to increase physical performance and conditioning. Exercising at a lower weight places less stress on your body during high intensity workouts, making the session and recovery less taxing. You are also able to target certain areas of the body as you run. For example, running at a lower body weight allows you to focus on engaging your core, rather than worrying about each step.
How Does it Work?
1. Strap on the AlterG® shorts
2. Lower the Deck
3. Step in
4. Zip the Shorts
5. Raise the Deck
Once you are in the treadmill, you are ready to start moving. Set your initial body weight percentage and then choose a starting speed. First timers may opt to start at a higher body weight and gradually work their way down. You can change the percentage like you would a standard treadmill with up and down keys on the dashboard. The anti-gravity treadmill also allows you to adjust speed and incline.
The AlterG® anti-gravity treadmill is a good option for those who want to take a break from more impactful training. At MPOWER, you are able to book time on the treadmill, no memberships or other services required. All you have to do is give us a call when you feel like running!
Whether you’re looking to recover from injury or boost performance, this machine makes it easy one step at a time.
